DAVID WITH GOLIATH'S HEAD

This painting by Caravaggio was probably realized in 1609 and it represents the scene from the myth of David and Goliath in which the young sheeper beheads the giant.
It looks so realistic, thanks to the lights and the shadows we can observe in it and that make it a tridimentional painting. It's so impressive how the artist was able to give the idea of such a kind of portraits at that time and that's why we consider him as the last baroque artist and the introducer of the Realism.
The historical sources tell us both the characters represented in the painting are two self-portraits of Caravaggio in two different periods of his life: David shows his young innocent face, while Goliath seems to look like him when he was already destroyed by his poor life, maybe also for attending places as taverns.
The scene seems to describe themes as the redemption.

THE WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION

The World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), formerly the International Federation of Alternative Traders ("IFAT"), was created in 1989 and is a global association of 324 organizations in over 70 countries.^[1] Members are fair trade producer cooperativesand associations, export marketing companies, importers, retailers, national and regional fair trade networks and Fair Trade Support Organizations.

WFTO's mission is to improve the livelihoods and well being of disadvantaged producers by linking and promoting Fair Trade Organizations, and speaking out for greater justice in world trade.

WFTO's core fields of activities are:

• Building trust in fair trade
• Speaking out for fair trade
• Providing networking opportunities
• Empowering the regions

In 2004 WFTO launched a fair trade certification scheme and mark. The FTO Mark identifies registered Fair Trade Organizations worldwide (as opposed to products in the case of FLO International and Fairtrade mark) and guarantees that standards are being implemented regarding working conditions, wages, child labor and the environment. These standards are verified by self-assessment, mutual reviews and external verification. The FTO Mark is available to all WFTO members who meet the requirements of the WFTO Standards and Monitoring System and so far over 150 organizations have registered. The WFTO operates in five key regions: Africa, Asia, Latin America, Europe and North America & Pacific Rim.^[2]
Members in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America have come together to form WFTO regional chapters. They are:

JOAN OF ARC'S BIOGRAPHY
We're just talking about one of the most famous heroines in French history, 'cause she was able to reclaime women's rights about power in a very long and hard conflict between French and British army, known as Hundred Years' War. Today she's also known (or remembered) thanks to her young religious life: infact, we know she displayed a sensitive and religious temperament, showed by the fact of telling about some continual voices she heard and believed they were from God, who was encouraging her to join up in the French army during the war. So we can say history talks to us about some rare powers she had. This 19 years old girl burned to death in Rouen on the 30th of May 1431. Today she's the Saint Patron in France.

COMPARING I WANT IT ALL WITH SATAN

These two elements can show us themselves as strictly connected for sone different points of view; for example, we can say Satan wants everything, infact he's described as a very powerful and greedy character and such a strong fighter and the song talks about a dark area, like the Darkness of Satan army. The fightings that happen among people in those areas can represent some analogies with Paradise Lost.
It's interesting like Queen idealize the content Milton was representing in the XVII Century.

BODY LANGUAGE

During this first part of our school year, we've talked about the theme of body language. We've said it very important to communicate and to express our emotions when we're talking to someone. Then, we've discovered different gestures in the world, such as, in South America, when you put your hand under your chin you mean I have no idea, or, when you enlarge your eye by a finger, you mean be careful. The last one I remember is about touching your elbow by your hand to tell someone You're cheapskate.

Then, we discovered some ways to count in the world, like putting your fingers on the hand or on your head, like to say Always reason, also if you're only counting.

THEODORA'S MOSAIC

This is a mosaic, realized in 547 and we can find it in the Basilic of St. Vitale, in Ravenna.

It's a byzantine mosaic, that shows the queen, nearby the king Justinian and tourists remain shocked 'cause, although they're so old they're very realistic. We can recognize the byzantine style thanks to the gold background that characterized that kind of art. Then, we can see some blue-coloured parts and the queen's expression very serious 'cause they weren't able to realize the face expression yet.

This queen succeded to her father Theodoric in 526 and she was really imponent: we even know that, probably, this mosaic cost about 26'000 gold money!

CHUCK BERRY

Every onec heard about Chuck Berry's recent death.

He was 90 years old and was remembered as rock'n'roll's father, so famous as American guitarist, singer and songwriter; he also refined and developped rythm and blues in rock'n'roll.

He was born on October, the 18th 1926 from an African-American family in St. Louis and gave his first performance in Summer High School. While he studied there, he was convicted of armed robbery and was detained for four years.

Now-a-day he's gone away and everyone remembers him as a great musician and father of such an appreciated music genre.
